Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
